Transport overview
The Cycling Road Race will be held around Melbourne's Royal Botanical Gardens, along the edge of the Yarra River and through the steep surrounds of Punt Road Hill, south of the CBD. The course is approximately 11 kilometres and easily accessible via public transport. Athletes will familiarise themselves with the course on Saturday and the race will occur on Sunday. Residential Permit Parking arrangements that exist prior to the Games will remain in operation during the Games. (A Special Event Parking Permit will be in operation for identified City of Stonnington residents. For further information contact the City of Stonnington on 9290 1333.) While Permit holders retain their rights under that permit, they are still required to comply with any Games-related temporary parking restrictions operating in that area. (No Stopping/Tow-Away zones apply to all vehicles)
All Road Event courses were publicly announced in July 2005. Approximately 150,000 booklets containing course routes and event dates and details were distributed throughout local communities where Road Events are taking place. There will be ongoing communications in the lead up to the Games to help communities fully understand the local arrangements that will be put in operation.
