The report reveals that the economic, social and environmental objectives set by the Victorian Government were met.

The Commonwealth Games Environment Report Card has established the Commonwealth Games achieved the objectives of being a low waste, carbon neutral and water wise event. The Commonwealth Games continues to deliver lasting benefits for Victoria, with the release of the Economic Impact Statement revealing a $1.6 billion positive impact on Gross State Product. The study shows that direct Games expenditure, tourism, construction and other commercial activity generated by the Games have positively impacted on Gross State Product by $1.6 billion. This is higher than the pre Games estimate of $1.5 billion.

The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games were delivered $50.1 million under budget. The Premier, Steve Bracks, today announced the Victorian community helped deliver Victoria's biggest event well under budget. The Auditor General has confirmed that the Victorian Government recorded a net outlay of $601 million for the Games, $50.1 million under the Government's capped contribution to the Games of $651 million.
