A new litter barge is patrolling the Yarra and Maribrynong Rivers to have these waterways looking their best for the Games.
Launched in August 2004, the barge is forecast to scoop up more than 2,000 cubic metres of rubbish from litter traps along both rivers. That's roughly enough to fill two 50 metre swimming pools by the time of the Opening Ceremony.
The barge will continue to operate after the Games, helping improve
the health of our rivers in the long term.
