Commonwealth of Nations

Let's start with some numbers.

A family of 71 nations. Spanning six continents. Representing some 1.7 billion people.

The modern Commonwealth is a complex, diverse and strong association.

Its members range from Antigua to Zambia, and include India, Canada, England and Northern Ireland. And while the countries have many different cultures and lifestyles, shared history, political systems and ideals link them together.

For Australia, hosting the Games is a chance to build stronger relationships with the rest of this family - both cultural and economic.

So from schools starting up a pen-pal program with students in Nigeria, to a construction firm sharing its expertise to the host of the next Games, there's a lot happening besides sport.
