The Commonwealth Games evolved as a way of bringing together the nations of the Commonwealth to celebrate their shared history and cultural differences - all through the universal language of sport.
The Commonwealth Games also has an impressive track record of inclusion, being the only multi-sport meeting of its size to make sports for elite althetes with a disability part of the main event.
As one of the most diverse parts of the Commonwealth (one-in-four Victorians was born overseas), we're working to strengthen this tradition in 2006. And through a string of initiatives, we're aiming to take the spirit of the Games off the field to make it a celebration of who we are.
