The
new State Lawn Bowls Centre, located at the Darebin International Sports
Centre (DISC), in the inner suburb of Thornbury, will host nine days
of elite lawn bowls competition for the Commonwealth Games.
Development of the centre is part of a larger project to create a major sporting precinct that includes the new State Training Velodrome and the State Soccer Centre. Once complete, this precinct as a whole will offer:
four outdoor bowling greens
one indoor synthetic bowling green
a 250 metre indoor cycling velodrome
three all-weather synthetic soccer pitches
This project is a partnership between the Victorian Government, City of Darebin, Darebin City Bowls Club and Victorian Soccer Federation.
Construction of the Lawn Bowls Centre is complete, with the Asia Pacific Championships successfully held in November 2005.
