William Barak Bridge

Artists impression of the Yarra Pedestrian BridgeThis 525 metre footbridge will stretch from Birrarung Marr to the MCG – improving the link between some of Melbourne's biggest sports and entertainment venues and the heart of the CBD.

During the Games, this bridge will make it easier and safer for thousands of pedestrians moving between sporting and cultural events. It will also create a direct pedestrian link between the MCG and public transport hubs like Flinders Street Station.

Beyond the Games, the bridge will be used by people on their way to events like the AFL Grand Final, the Australian Open Tennis and other entertainment activities held in the precinct.

It is on schedule for completion by the end of 2005.

Key facts and figures about the bridge:

- Will be up to 9 metres wide;
- Will greatly imrove access for people with a disability;
- Has elevator access at route 70 tram stop and an elevated plaza with four pedestrian access points;
- Will be lit at night;
- Will exhibit public art.
