The people of Strathbogie helped the African nation of Cameroon celebrate their national day of independence in May 2005. The Cameroon Association of Australia put on an evening of national food and festivities to mark the occassion which was attended by the Mayor and community representatives from Strahbogie Shire. Strathbogie Shire - along with Whittlesea City Council - have adopted Cameroon through the 'Adopt a Second Team' program which pairs every local council in Victoria with a Commonwealth Nation. The 'Adopt a Second Team' program aims to build relationships between these two communities, through schools, community associations, business and events. As the build-up to the Games continues, friendships are being forged across the globe and will continue long after the Games are finished.
